The Process of Translation

Vermes Albert

INGYENESEN LETÖLTHETŐ PDF!

This textbook is meant primarily for students of English at the undergraduate level who study translation as part of their degree programme. It is designed to complement their proficiency as language professionals specialised in the English language with an indispensable practical skill that they will inevitably need in their professional life.

The book contains material for a one-semester lecture course, the aim of which is to acquaint students with the practical questions of translation. It presents a general framework for professional translation and guides students through the stages of the translation process from the preparatory phases to the editing of the target text. Although much of the discussion in this book relates to translation in general, without reference to any specific languages, the focus is on translation from English into Hungarian, and all the examples provided as illustration concern this language pair.

Readers of this book are assumed to be familiar with the fundamental concepts and the basic practical and theoretical problems of translation, but most of the questions discussed here will make good sense even to those who do not have such preliminary knowledge.
